Meet the team

A teacher is someone who has learned through their own practice how to listen

Our yoga instructors are the bedrock of our community. It's always been important to us to have teachers who convey the spirit and love of yoga and how it's moved them. To know the transformative power of yoga and share it in a meaningful way.

These teachers have practised in our shala, and have understood the way yoga has landed for them and how that now plays out for others. They're incredibly experienced and insightful.

Scott Johnson

Director & Senior Teacher

Scott has been director and senior teacher at Stillpoint since he co-founded it in 2009 as Stillpoint Yoga London, with the late Ozge Karabiyik. He has dedicated himself to sharing the practice of yoga each weekday morning since then.

Scott has been practising yoga since 1998, and teaching Ashtanga yoga since 2003. He's one of only a few Ashtanga teachers to both be authorised in the primary and intermediate series by Manju Jois and be given senior teacher status by John Scott.

Scott is registered as a senior yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance UK and has also undergone extensive training with Clear Mind International, gaining their level 1, 2 & 3 certificate in Mindfulness and Compassion. Scott’s years of dedicated and committed teaching each morning has led Stillpoint to become a highly respected central London Ashtanga yoga shala. He meets everyone who comes and looks to create long-term relationships, integrating the practice of yoga and embodied mindfulness as a way of meeting the world.

Lee Monk, Stillpoint Yoga Instructor

Lee Monk

Senior Teacher

Lee began his yoga journey in 2009 when he practised one evening a week with an inspirational Ashtanga yoga teacher. At that time, balancing the demands of a family and the stress of a career, he soon discovered the practice was his key to reducing stress and achieving a much needed personal balance.

In 2009 he discovered Stillpoint and, through Scott and Oz’s combined deeply nurturing and non-judgmental teaching styles, was encouraged to deepen his knowledge and understanding of the truly authentic, traditional, Mysore-style of Ashtanga yoga. Encouraged by his teachers, Lee spent time with John Scott and Lucy Crawford and completed the John Scott Yoga 200hr Teacher Training.

Lee teaches as he practises: with compassion, patience, encouragement, authenticity and in a non-judgmental way. He has embraced the fact that we're all individuals with our own physical limitations, fear and self-doubt. He guides students gently along the Ashtanga path to empower them to discover their own journey and to nourish, strengthen and balance their mind and body.

Jayne teaches mysore, guided and restorative on Stillpoint Online.

Mercedes Parrellada

Ashtanga Yoga Teacher

Mercedes left her hometown of Buenos Aires at a young age to pursue a career in ballet. After graduating from The Royal Ballet School in London she moved to Amsterdam to join The National Ballet. In 2004 she discovered yoga and ever since then her relationship to the practice has been evolving. Throughout the years Mercedes has been inspired by many different teachers, especially Nancy Gilgoff, Dena Kingsberg, and Andrea Lutz who she still learns from today. In 2012 Mercedes devoted her life to teaching yoga and in 2017 she co-founded The Breathing Space in Amsterdam. Among other many other classes she co-taught the daily mysore program there until she moved to the UK in 2023.

Mercedes likes to think of practice as a container for self exploration - each breath, each pose is an opportunity to observe yourself, to recognise the patterns that keep showing up while opening up to new possibilities...
